Lynn Woods is a journalist, artist, filmmaker and author based in Kingston, NY. Following a 25-year career as a freelance writer specializing in travel and business, Lynn now writes about art, nature and the environment and the history, people and socio-political issues of the local community–for Chronogram and other regional publications in the mid-Hudson Valley. Her paintings and drawings have been exhibited at numerous galleries in the mid-Hudson Valley, including Carrie Haddad, the Living Room, New World Home Cooking, and The Storefront Gallery, and been selected for juried shows at the Woodstock School of Art and Woodstock Jewish Congregation. She wrote, co-directed and co-produced Lost Rondout: A Story of Urban Removal, a one-hour documentary film chronicling the destruction of the waterfront district of Kingston, NY, which was once a thriving port. And Lynn is the co-author of Adirondack Style: Great Camps and Rustic Lodges, published by Universe Books, a division of Rizzoli, in 2011.

“Painting a still life, interior, landscape, or street scene plein air, working from photos, or more abstractly using the medium of painted paper collage, my goal is to distill my subject to its essence, removing extraneous details to portray the underlying geometry that moves the eye dynamically around the surface as well as creates a harmony of form and color relationships. I enjoy the tension between a representational image and the underlying abstract logic of its composition. It’s a constant struggle, usually involving many adjustments.”
