The artist Suzanne Sanger holds a special place in Pinkwater Gallery history as both the mother of the gallerist and the best-selling artist by volume in the gallery’s history. Best known for her smaller abstract works, Suzanne is a prolific artist who continues to create highly inventive and beautiful art based in textile and couture techniques like embroidery, appliqué, decorative stitching and quilting. Over the past forty years, she has worked in a range of genres that are based in realism or a blend of realism and abstraction, including masterful larger pieces that are akin to the tapestries of old in their complexity and accomplishment. Suzanne has found inspiration in the natural world as well as her post-retirement international travels but is now primarily occupied with exploring abstraction. She has created a body of textile-based artwork - much of it quilted - that garners awards and is museum-quality.
