Richard B. Aakre was born in Duluth, MN and grew up in the northern lakes region of Minnesota. He earned his BA from the University of Minnesota in 1965, followed by his MA, MFA from the University of Iowa in 1969.
He lives and works in New York City, but spends summers in the Upper Delaware region of New York State. He has shown work around the country, most recently at the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance in Narrowsburg, NY.
His signature six-inch square collages always focus on use of postage stamps and incorporate objects found in nature such as shells, seeds, and lichens, as well as everyday objects.
