Angela Basile earned a BFA from Syracuse University and an MFA from Parsons School of Design. She has painted large-scale murals in San Francisco, Harlem, Syracuse, and Brooklyn, and was honored to be named a Painting Fellow by New York Foundation for the Arts. Angela was an artist in residence at the Hungarian Multicultural Center in Csopak, Hungary, where limited accessibility, the pace of life, and the landscape deepened her desire to find new pathways of expression. In addition to her painting practice, Angela co-founded 5'7 Studios in Red Hook—a creative space built on curiosity, collaboration, and community. 

“I’m drawn to the moments we move past quickly: the way light hesitates on the edge of an object, the charm of a space in transition, or a magnified arrangement of color and shadow. Painting is a way to stay with these moments, crop them from the continuum of time, and to honor their small significance.
I’m interested in creating work that feels familiar—paintings that invite viewers to notice something they may have missed or forgotten. It’s a reminder—to myself as much as to anyone—that beauty lives in the places we rush past. With art, we slow down in a different way, to really see it.”
