ANCESTRY: ARTIST TALK

A highlight of Upstate Art Weekend 2025, the artist talk led by Tina Campt, a scholar and author whose work investigates the identity of the African Diaspora through photography, was insightful and moving. Brandon spoke about his background and the influence of getting to know more about his family ties, his process and how utilizing cyanotype is his way of illuminating dark skin, and his use of photo montage to overlay historic images with his own current photography to comment on the power of lineage and the strength of the mother figure in his work.
